Shane’s – The Pawn Shop, Inc. was started in 1955 by Joseph Z. Schoeneman and his uncle Joe Schoeneman. The business closed when there was a fire in 1968 and uncle Joe retired.

In 1970, Joseph with the help of his wife, Marian and his son, David, reopened Shane’s doors to the public. After 12 years of successful operation, Joseph once again faced the decision to retire and closed Shane’s.

David, who is a graduate gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America, chose to work as a diamond sorter for a diamond dealer in Chicago. He moved to Australia in 1982 and continued working as a diamond sorter for a diamond dealer in Melbourne. In 1985, David married Carmencita Ordona, an internal auditor for one of the biggest business conglomerates in the Philippines. They decided to move back to the United States and in June 1989, Shane’s – The Pawn Shop, Inc. was reborn.

When Shane’s opened its doors for the third time in the Wilson Center Mall on 14th Street (W. Lincoln Hwy.), former customers from Joseph’s store poured in. They welcomed David, Carmencita, Joseph and Marian with lots of hugs and beaming smiles.

Today, under the careful stewardship of David, Shane’s entered the modern world of computer technology. It is now staffed by 13 full and part time employees and held the title “Best Pawnshop of the Year” as voted by the Star and Daily South town newspapers for many years.

The new Shane’s started as a full line pawnshop and a retail jewelry store. As the economy became more challenging, Shane’s continues to serve its customers with the same honesty, integrity and compassion. For Shane’s, the customers will always come first. David and Carmencita will always be grateful to all the loyal customers who made Shane’s the best pawnshop it can be.
